Campus Information

The is the largest public research university in eastern èßäapp, and the third largest in the state, providing an academic home to nearly 11,000 on-campus students and conferring more than 3,000 degrees annually. UMSL offers a wide range of baccalaureate and masters degrees, two education specialist degrees, and 17 doctoral degrees including the only professional doctor of optometry program in èßäapp.

UMSL was established in 1963 as the fourth campus of the University of èßäapp System to better serve the state’s most populous and economically important region. Since its founding, UMSL has worked collaboratively with the region to provide a highly educated and diverse workforce. With a network of 100,000 alumni, UMSL graduates can be found in all 50 states and more than 60 countries. But, their greatest impact is felt in the St. Louis area where more than 72 percent of UMSL alumni live and work, driving the region’s economy and contributing mightily to its social and cultural well-being.

Situated on 470 rolling acres in St. Louis County, UMSL is divided into North Campus and South Campus by Natural Bridge Road. With a mix of modern and historic academic buildings, as well as a variety of student residence halls, a new recreation center and a worldclass performing arts center, the campus includes more than 70 structures accounting for nearly 3.5 million square feet of building space. It’s the perfect setting for students to gain unique insights from outstanding faculty and work experience from internships at companies and organizations found only in this world-class metropolitan region.
